Coming in January - Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord

Author’s note: Someone once emailed me after a post showed up with a “tough” Scripture passage. She wanted to know if there was some difficulty in Michelle’s life that she hadn’t heard about. I quickly assured her that there is never any intention to reflect current news events in Michelle Obama’s life. In fact, these posts are done sometimes a month or more in advance, so I have no idea what will be going on at that time. I do trust the Word of God is quick, powerful and appropriate for any occasion. It is my prayer that these passages and prayers send blessing into Michelle’s life and anyone who may come across them. I'd like to post more often in 2011 - prayer partners (or posters) are welcome. Thanks for stopping by and as always be blessed. Leslie

Clothes yourselves with … patience.

Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Father, many in the world are fascinated by what Michelle wears. Thank you for Michelle’s inner strength and determination to focus on weightier matters. You also want us to be clothed on the inside with the evidences of your presence. Shower your grace upon Michelle so that she is a reflection of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen

The fruit of the Spirit is…patience.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Thank you Father for the indwelling and infilling of your Holy Spirit. Fill Michelle with your Spirit and as the Spirit conforms her to the image of Christ that the fruit of patience would shine forth from her life. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray. Amen

Consolation, good hope and comfort

2 Thessalonians 2: 16 – 17 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,  17Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Thank you that you have given us work to do. Thank you Father for the privilege of working for you. Thank you for the comfort that comes from knowing that you love us and surround us with your consolation, hope and grace. Give Michelle the continued vision of her role and a part of Kingdom work and a mission for you. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray. Amen

Hold on! Don’t give up!

Hebrews 10:34 – 36 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. 35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Thank you Father that in the long run there is nothing better than heaven. Cause Michelle and all of us to remember not to give up in the short run. Help us not to quit, give up or throw in the towel. Keep us pressing on. The reward for hanging on is great. Give us patience as we do your will. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray. Amen

Hope and patiently wait

Lamentations 3: 26  It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

Help us Father, when we would struggle with fear to hope and quietly wait for the salvation that you have in store for us. Grant Michelle the capacity to wait on you. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray. Amen

Tribulation, experience and hope

Romans 5: 3 – 4 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation works patience;  4And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

Thank you for the opportunity that trials present to us Father. You have said the learning experience will create patience in us and in becoming patient we gain experience because we can take in what’s happening without frustration, anxiety, or impulsive actions. Thank you for the hope that comes from watching you work. Thank you that you have Michelle’s back, thank you for being in complete control. Thank you that we can trust that completely. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray. Amen

Enduring temptation

1 Peter 1: 6 – 7 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 7That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Our Father, sometimes the weight of temptation is great and we struggle under the load. Thank you that our endurance and victory will give the Lord Jesus glory when He appears. May Michelle grow in strength and dependence on you. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray. Amen

Let patience work in you

James 1:4  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Dear Father, give us patience. If we allow patience to work it’s perfecting work in us then we can look forward to being complete, mature and entire in you. Cause Michelle’s heart to seek completeness in Christ, for when we have that we have everything we need. Thank you for being our God and having patience with us. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray. Amen

Our God Saves

Psalm 20:6 Now know I that the LORD saves his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

Holy Father, what confidence we can have in you. The Psalmist says I know you save and I know you hear your chosen people, I know you have the power. Encourage Michelle’s heart with that knowledge and confidence. Give her boldness that she may speak of and for you. Create in her a reflection of your glory. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

The Joy of the Lord is our strength.

Nehemiah 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our LORD: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Your people celebrated Father, when they heard your Word. At first, they wept but encouraged by Nehemiah they celebrated in the strength of the hearing and understanding of your Word. I pray that Michelle hear your Word regularly and be strengthened by it. I pray that the joy of hearing from you give strength to her heart. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

Strengthened by His might, patient with joy.

Colossians 1: 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.

Dear Father, Your glorious power gives us strength and in that strength, we can have patience with joy. Sometimes Father, days are long, sometimes trials are long and do not seem to have an end. Remind Michelle, remind all of us who call on the name of Jesus that the ability to hold on and hold out comes from you and that we can endure, not with a weary spirit but with joy knowing that you never leave or forsake us, and that you will carry us through. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

He is our refuge

Deuteronomy 33: 27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms…

Holy Father you are our God. You have been and are always with us, in the past, the present, and the future. There is nothing too hard for you to protect us from, there is never a time that you remove your shelter from us. Thank you for the comfort of your presence. Thank you for the strength of your everlasting arms. Keep Michelle reminded that there is peace and safety to be found when we run to you. Protect her and her family. In the name of the Lord Jesus. Amen.

God gives power to the faint

Isaiah 40:29 He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength.

Thank you Father that you are so willing to come to our aid. We grow tired and weary of the constant struggles of this life. Some days they seem to have no end. But there is no end to your power and the strength you are willing to give us. Shower that strength and power upon Michelle and her family. Help them to rest in you when there is no rest to be found . Strengthen them from the inside out that they may be able to withstand the fiery darts of the wicked. You are our God and beside you there is no other. In the name of the Lord Jesus. Amen

Daily Light from the Bible

Sharing: This is a great devotional - all Words from the Word!http://www.crosswalk.com/devotionals/dailylightdailypath/

"About Daily Light

For over a century, Daily Light on the Daily Path has been a favorite devotional book of those who realize the tremendous benefit of reading and praying Scripture. Originally printed in the mid-1800s, Daily Light was born out of the devout faith of Samuel Bagster, a British bookstore owner determined to share his faith with his twelve children.
The Bagsters’ daily practice of reading Scripture together, then connecting the day’s verses with other passages, inspired one of the children to compile their devotions for publication. The family discussed and prayed over the selection and arrangement of each verse until they were convinced that no further improvement could be made. After two years of prayer and consideration, the devotions were printed in two volumes for morning and evening reading." Thanks Chris Harrison and the ESV Bible Site!

Our strength is small

Proverbs 24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

Father we know days of adversity will come and surely we will faint in those days if we are not rooted and grounded in our relationship with you. Draw Michelle nearer to you each day; fill her heart with love, wisdom, and understanding to help her through days of adversity. Give her your strength. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

...thy strength is small

Keep your eyes on Jesus

Matthew 14:30 – 31 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

But when he saw the wind boisterous...

Even when our eyes are not on you Lord, you are ready with outstretched hand to save us. Thank you for your great love for us. There is so much to fill our eyes, often things that make us fear. Thank you for watching over Michelle and her family, may they cry out to you. May there be many others crying out to you on their behalf. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen

God’s grace is sufficient for us

2 Corinthians 12: 9 – 10 9And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

O Lord, give us the desire to be reflections of your Son the Lord Jesus. On good days and bad, in sickness and health. When men and women sing our praise, when they scorn and ridicule us, cause Michelle, cause all of us who bear the name of Jesus Christ to take joy in honoring Him through our weaknesses. Hard lessons Lord but you have promised to sustain us and when we are weak to give us your strength. Thank you for being our God. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

A prayer of encouragement

1Samuel 12:16........stand and see this great thing which the Lord will do before your eyes...

Father, each day you show us new mercies, each day you pour out blessings that we cannot ever finish counting. Today Lord, may Michelle be encouraged as she looks back over the hours just past and see the day through your eyes. All the people, the events, the quiet moments, the smiles, the handshakes, the places, the faces, the wonders, the joys, the worries and maybe even the tears. You bring nothing across our path by accident, may she learn to see your purpose and work in her life. How grateful we are O God for your presence, your great love and your mercy. May Michelle and all of us see the great things to are doing before our eyes. We praise you and offer these prayers in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen

I need God when my heart is overwhelmed

Psalm 61: 1 – 2 Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. 2From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

...when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Perhaps there are days Lord when Michelle feels overwhelmed. I know about those days and I have come to know that you Lord God are only a heart cry away. Remind Michelle of her need for you and your willingness to hear and answer us when we call. Thank you for being our God. In the name of the Lord Jesus. Amen

Prayer to God for Strength

Psalm 38: 10 My heart pants, my strength fails me: as for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me.

The words of the old hymn come to mind Father.

I need thee,

O I need thee,

Every hour I need thee.

O bless me now my Savior,

I come to thee.

Stir up in Michelle the hunger and thirst for you. Thank you for being able to provide and supply all of her needs, according to your riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Amen.

A prayer for peace in our lives

1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Dear Father, our world is full of chaos and confusion. There is so much darkness in the hearts of men. Hold back the night, drive away the enemy as only you can. Preserve us in peace, peace that passes all understanding. May your blessings continually be upon Michelle and her family. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

A Blessing

Numbers 6:24-26 24The LORD bless you, and keep you: 25The LORD make his face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: 26The LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.

A prayer of confidence in God

Luke 23:46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

Dear Father, Thank you for the example of our Lord Jesus Christ who showed us what to do in times of trial, persecution and distress. Help us to call upon you, cry out to you, and commit ourselves to you. In those times when it seems like we can’t do anything right. On those days when it seems that no one understands or is our side, cause us to remember, cause Michelle to remember that Jesus found His strength, His will to continue doing what you sent Him to do in crying out. You are our very present help in time of trouble. Thank you again Lord. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

A prayer for mercy

Luke 18:13
13And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

O Father, how we need to humble ourselves at your throne. You are merciful and gracious to allow us entrance to you through your Son, Jesus Christ. Remind us all of the holiness and maturity that you expect from us. Remind us how that honors you and shows our gratitude for redemption. Bless us now that we may be pleasing in your sight. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

A prayer for light/sight

Luke 18:41
41Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see.

Thank you Father for the gift of sight, both physical and spiritual. May your light shine on Michelle, warm her, light her way. As she comes in contact with others grant her the reception of open arms and minds. Shine your light and love all through the White House as her family reflects your love. Thank you Father that you have promised never to leave us or forsake us. Help Michelle to remember that you are always there for her. I hope you have too. For now posts will appear every Monday. As always feel free to post your own prayers. I continue to be grateful to God for our President and his family.
